Aesthetic Dentistry has come along way with the development of new techniques and materials. This latest technology allows our patients several treatment alternatives.
In the past, the only way to correct dental imperfections was to cover the tooth with a crown.
Today we can adopt various treatment options to achieve patient outcomes and to improve your smile.
The options can include-
Tooth re contouring - where tooth shape can be subtly adjusted to gain optimum
proportion and shape. There are, of course, some limitations
but in some cases a small adjustment can make a big difference.
Tooth whitening - Professional bleaching systems can be utilised to obtain improved
colour matching and overall shade. This also includes Root Canal
filled teeth which have become discoloured.
Resin Bonding - Improved bonding systems allow us to place tooth coloured resin
in thin layers to help improve any discrepancies and shade.
White fillings - At Whyalla Dental Care we have the latest restorative materials available.
This includes various white filling materials. Before a restoration is placed
we will advise you of the options as to which material would perform best
in each unique situation.
Ceramic Veneers - The latest porcelain/ceramic can be made into very thin facings
(0.5-1.0mm) that are placed seamlessly over the front surface of
a tooth to improve the colour, shape and size.
Veneers are a more conservative treatment
than a crown and can often be used as an
alternative if the underlying tooth is strong
and healthy.
Ceramic Onlays/Inlays- Porcelain Inlays are a more durable and aesthetic alternative to
standard tooth-coloured resin restorations. A Porcelain Onlay
covers part or whole of the chewing surface.
Often this is done also to strengthen a
tooth’s resistance to fracture and breakage.
Porcelain Inlays and Onlays are a more
conservative treatment than a crown and can
often be used as an alternative if the
underlying tooth structure is strong and healthy.
Ceramic Crowns- A Porcelain Crown is a restoration that is placed over a heavily
broken down or filled tooth. Porcelain Crowns
cover the remaining tooth structure and
prevent further breakdown. Crowns also
prevent cracks in teeth from propagating.
Ceramic Bridges- A Porcelain bridge is a restoration that replaces single or multiple
missing teeth. This is achieved by connecting
permanently to adjacent teeth or implants.
Dental Implants- Dental Implants are titanium inserts that are used to replace missing
teeth. This can be in place of a single missing tooth, numerous
missing teeth or a mouth with no remaining
teeth. Dental Implants can avoid the need for
partial or full dentures by the use of implant
supported bridges.
Aesthetic Cases treated at
Whyalla Dental Care
Heavily filled Molar protected from further breakdown with
full ceramic crown. The ceramic takes on a very ‘tooth’ like
appearance. This patient chose to have the adjacent teeth
treated at a later stage.
66 year old Female
69 year old female concerned with her discoloured and uneven front teeth.
Although there were many more options available to achieve a favourable aesthetic result for all her teeth and gums, the patient chose a simple ceramic veneer and crown on the two upper front teeth to meet her aesthetic needs and expectations. Further work on the remaining teeth and gum surgery could achieve a full aesthetic arch.
45 year old Female
A heavily filled and cracked lower left molar restored with a ceramic onlay to
achieve an aesthetic outcome while also stopping further crack propagation.
